"The Civil Rights Movement of this decade is Mental Health Care quality and equality." -- Updated September 16, 2004 --
What are advance directives? Individuals with mental illness have discovered that they need some method of expressing their instructions and preferences for treatment and providing advance consent to or refusal of treatment. An advance directive is a legal document on which an individual can express his or her choices about future treatment at a time when the effects of mental illness have not deprived them of the power to express their instructions or preferences.
